Paddler Swiftwater class offerings teach the preparation, avoidance and action involved in paddlesport rescue in moving water. This course is taught at three levels based on paddler experience and skill level desired.

Paddler based Swiftwater class offerings:

River Safety & Rescue Beginner -1 day class/water

This course teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and simple rescues of paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed on personal safety and simple, commonly used skills. Fundamental techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as entrapments, strainers, & pins, also are taught. This course is aimed primarily at new boaters, or boaters who do not anticipate paddling in advanced whitewater. Scenarios allow participants to encounter situations they may find on paddling trips on beginner sections of rivers.

Swiftwater Rescue Paddler -2 days class & on water

The "Paddler" course teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for other paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and on simple, commonly used skills. Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins, also are practiced. Practical scenarios provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context.

Advanced SWR Paddler -1 day on the water (sequential course following SWR paddler course)

This workshop is aimed at trip leaders, boaters paddling on more challenging whitewater, and anyone desiring opportunities to develop their rescue skills. The ability to quickly identify, make critical judgment and maintain awareness in rescue situations, impacting both personal and group safety, are emphasized throughout the course. Although new skills may be taught, this class focuses on developing judgment and applying skills in rescue scenarios. Scope and content of the course will vary, based upon participant needs, interests and experience.  We can build this course to suit the participants desires.
